IMPORTANT! Black Women’s Hair: Denial of Identity

| Mariana Flores de Camino: Beautiful Hair |
Black women have a certain type of hair thanks to their genetics that make it curly and sometimes this hair turns to be difficult to brush. These women have to learn how to deal with it since they are young. Their hair needs special care and all black girls know it.
Certainly, if a woman wants to look beautiful, she needs to take care of her hair, but black women have to make a bigger effort and buy a lot of products to keep it healthy. However, that is not the issue because they can do it perfectly. The problem is that society has changed the way in which women with these African ascends think about this particular feature in their bodies: their hair.

This matter could be not that important for some people, but if you take a look at history, you’re going to find that black women have suffered from rejection just because some people don’t like their hair as the way it is naturally.
Having straight hair
Many black women have preferred to have their hair straight because they think that maintaining their natural hair could be “embarrassing”. We aren’t saying that they cannot have it straight, but, in some places, the racist idea that “black” is bad remains.
Black women straighten their hair and have to live their lives pretending that is better to have it like that. Aren’t them denying their identity?
